The Direct Shear apparatus is an essential tool for conducting Direct Shear tests on specimens. It consists of a square shear box divided into two halves where the specimen is placed. As a constant normal load is applied, a horizontal force is gradually increased on one section of the box, leading to shear failure along the box sections’ junction. The apparatus measures shear force and normal load directly, with adjustable strain rates controlled by the horizontal force speed.
The test covers the determination of consolidated drained shear strength of a soil material in direct shear. This Direct Shear Test Machine is motorized and floor mounted. Supplied with carriage assembly load hanger and integral 9:1, 10:1 and 11:1 lever loading device as standard.
The loading unit features V-strips for supporting the shear box housing and is designed for specimens sized 60x60x25mm. It includes a precalibrated load yoke to balance the loading system and a load yoke with a direct and through lever system for applying normal loads up to 3 kg/cm2 capacity. Additionally, fixtures for proving ring, brackets for consolidation, and strain dial gauges are provided, along with a lead screw connected to the shear box housing for applying shear stress accurately.
